A buyer question can become a market
Buyers repeatedly ask for help with the same commercially meaningful needs. They may phrase the questions differently, but when those questions require substantially the same answer, they form one question family—and one field in which sources compete to be discovered and credited.
Delphic calls that field a question market. It is narrower than a category and more durable than one prompt. The market follows the underlying buyer need, not the wording of a single generated answer.
Ownership is a measured position, not exclusivity
An expert firm owns a question market when AI repeatedly discovers and credits it as a legitimate source across those natural buyer questions, and the firm can sustain that position with evidence it is entitled to publish.
Ownership does not mean no other source can appear. AI answers can use several sources, and one favourable citation does not prove that a market has been won. The meaningful position is consistent and attributable: the firm's legitimate authority is present where buyers encounter the question rather than left to reputation or chance.
What the position is worth
Owning the right question market places the firm's expertise inside the buyer's discovery and evaluation process. It can make the firm easier to find, strengthen the association between the firm and knowledge it genuinely owns, and create evidence about where that authority deserves defence or expansion.
The value comes from owning questions that matter to the firm's buyers—not from accumulating generic mentions, traffic or an undifferentiated visibility score.
The Index is the asset used to hold it
The Knowledge Index gives the firm an owned system for mapping those markets, creating approved public evidence, measuring who AI credits and keeping the position current.
The Index is the asset; the question market is the prize. Delphic builds and manages the asset so the client can win and hold valuable buyer questions without turning its paid knowledge into free content. The conceptual definition is public. The applied judgement used to establish and defend a particular firm's position remains protected.
