A website records what an expert firm has published. A Knowledge Index records what the firm can answer. It connects a private map of buyer-question markets to approved public Answer Objects, per-engine measurement, disclosure decisions and market intelligence. Delphic manages the system over time: where the firm is discovered, who receives the credit, which opportunities are attainable and what should be defended, improved or added next. The private map can be complete without making the underlying knowledge public.

## The map includes what the website cannot show

An expert firm's website describes practices, people and products. It rarely shows the full set of questions the firm can answer, the knowledge behind those answers or the markets in which another source currently receives the credit. A Knowledge Index represents that missing scope through [question families](../question-family/).

The starting point is not a list of pages. It is the firm's legitimate authority: what it knows, which buyer needs that knowledge can answer and where those needs matter commercially. That is what lets the Index include opportunities the existing website has never expressed.

## Private control, approved public evidence

The Index has two connected layers.

The private control layer holds the complete market map: the buyer questions, supporting authority, observed position, opportunity, disclosure state and decision history needed to manage each family. It remains private to the client.

The public evidence layer contains only approved Answer Objects. Some answers can be public in full. Some publish a useful framework while holding the detailed method or decision process. Others identify a protected source without revealing its core. The public site is therefore not a copy of the private map. It is the authorised evidence surface drawn from it.

## What makes it managed

Publication is only one state in the Index. Repeated measurement tracks the [four AI-position outcomes](../four-outcome-ai-position-model/) - unbranded Discovery, discovery-market Authority, Brand evaluation and Competitive standing - separately for each engine rather than compressing them into a visibility score.

The market record also accumulates intelligence around the question: changes in buyer demand, competing supply, response and treatment outcomes. That evidence supports more than content prioritisation. It can reveal underserved buyer needs, emerging question families, product opportunities and subjects where the firm's authority is stronger than the public market recognises.

The client portal is the operating view of this system: the map, current state, evidence, decisions, approved objects, movement and next actions in one place. Delphic manages the system as a strategic partner rather than handing over a static audit.

The architecture is public because it explains what the client owns. Delphic keeps private the detailed record structure, how different evidence is made comparable and connected, and the rules used to turn that evidence into a defensible portfolio decision.

## Completeness without exposure

Completeness does not mean publishing everything. It means the private map reflects the firm's real authority rather than the accidental limits of its website. Every family then receives its own public decision. Reading private work does not make it public; mapping it does not make it public; only an approved Answer Object crosses the line.

This distinction is what allows the Index to expand safely. New demand can extend the private map before any disclosure decision is made. New market intelligence can change priority without forcing a new page. Public evidence grows only where the firm has a legitimate claim, a reason to compete and an acceptable disclosure path.

## From content library to managed authority asset

A content library records what a firm has published. A Knowledge Index records what the firm can answer, where that authority competes, what AI currently does with it and what the market is revealing next. It turns disconnected pages into a managed authority asset with a private memory, an approved public surface and an accountable next decision.

## Disclosure line

Golden-nugget core: full

Public at this line: The complete private-control and approved-public-evidence architecture, the question-family unit, the managed measurement and intelligence lifecycle, the client's disclosure control and the portal as the operating view.

Held at this line: Delphic keeps private the Index's underlying data structure, the exact information recorded, how signals are connected and made comparable, how opportunities are ranked and how the combined evidence becomes a portfolio decision.

Access path: Delphic builds and manages the protected Index around the firm's priority question markets, with approved Answer Objects forming its public evidence layer.

## Applied client output

A private, managed market map connected to approved public Answer Objects, live per-engine AI-position measurement, demand signals and a prioritised action record in the client portal.
